The Northern Governors committed to establishing the Northern Nigeria Economic Development Council (NNEDC) to coordinate the region's economic agenda, operating under the joint oversight of the NEF and the NNGF, tackling issues like poverty, insecurity, and infrastructure deficits through projects in agriculture, power, health, education, and environment, aligning with the "Renewed Hope Agenda". It receives and manages federal funds for rehabilitation and reconstruction, focusing on integrated, gap-filling projects rather than duplicating other government efforts.

Funding: Mobilizing capital through blended finance, green bonds, and attracting private investment, with over $10 billion pledged.

NNEDC was Signed into law as an Act, with its headquarters in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Leadership: Governed by a board with a Chairman, Managing Director, and Executive Directors

The NNEDC is Headed by Bello Suleiman. Born on 16 June 1952 Bello Suleiman is a Nigerian engineer and public administrator who served as Minister of Power and Steel in 1998. Educated in mechanical engineering at Ahmadu Bello University (1971–1975) and with further studies at the University of Birmingham (1977–1978), Suleiman progressed through technical and managerial roles in Sokoto State ministries, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, and as Managing Director of the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc (1987–1992). Following his ministerial tenure under the transitional military regime, he contributed to the National Electric Power Authority (later restructured as the Power Holding Company of Nigeria) as Executive Vice Chairman, where he later publicly criticized the federal government's power privatization efforts for inadequately vetting bidders' technical expertise and financial capacity, arguing this contributed to ongoing sector inefficiencies. A Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, he received merit awards from the organization in 1990 and 1997 for professional contributions.
